Special Counsel Jack Smith is not just investigating Donald Trump's classified documents case but also January 6. Now, two of the Trump fake electors have agreed to testify in exchange for limited immunity.

Many of these fake Republican electors are prominent Republican officials within their respective states. They were installed by former President Trump in key battleground states to declare him the winner of the 2020 election.

The fake electors scheme was part of the ex-POTUS' efforts to overturn the elections in the events leading up to January 6. A source familiar with the matter stated that going after these fake electors could be a signal that the special counsel might be approaching his decision to charge the former president.

According to Newsweek, former federal prosecutor Glenn Kirschner stated that the immunity agreement with two of these prominent Republican state officials was a "tactical decision" and that it was important to "lock in their testimony that very likely will incriminate Donald Trump,"

Kirshner pointed out, "What are the odds that Republican operatives and officials in all seven battleground states simultaneously and coincidentally came up with the fake elector scheme?" before adding, "Smith's going to wring the truth out of them upfront, and he's going to use that truth to make sure he brings the best, most complete, most compelling case he can bring against Donald Trump and his legal team."

Previously, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, who is currently investigating Trump's election meddling in Georgia, secured immunity deals for several fake electors in her state in exchange for their testimonies.

Donald Trump Fake Electors Scheme

Presidential electors are the people appointed by state parties before the general election to represent the will of the voters and vote for the person who won the election in their state at the electoral college. However, Donald Trump tried to fraudulently tip the election in his favor by installing fake electors that would have voted for him instead of the person who actually won, Joe Biden.

When Democratic electors gathered at their seat of state government to cast their votes on December 14, 2020, the fake Trump electors were there as well and declared themselves the rightful electors and submitted false Electoral College certificates.

According to the Associated Press, Donald Trump's fake electors all declared him the winner of the presidential election in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, New Mexico, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. The one who actually won the election in those states is Joe Biden.

Now, these electors are facing fraud charges for their efforts to overturn the election results.

Donald Trump Afraid Ex-Chief of Staff Mark Meadows Might Be Cooperating With Prosecutors

Meanwhile, Donald Trump's legal team is now preparing for more bad news as his former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, might be cooperating with prosecutors.

According to Insider, several Trump aides and allies are using the rat emoji to refer to Meadows in private as they fear he might be cooperating with special counsel Jack Smith. The Trump legal team reportedly does not know whether this is true or not and the former president seems to have responded to the rumors by sending some of his lawyers on a "small fact-finding mission" to find out.

It is noted that Meadows and his lawyers stopped talking to Trump's inner circle a few months ago. As Chief of Staff of the Trump administration, Meadows has knowledge in what was going on in the final days of the Trump presidency, including the events leading up to January 6.
