Argentina is a soccer powerhouse and is even considered one of the most soccer-crazy countries in the world. They are the current World Cup champions and have produced plenty of legendary players.

Albiceleste currently has three World Cups under its belt; the latest one, of course, was won last year thanks to Lionel Messi, Angel Di Maria, and the rest of that now-legendary Argentina squad. That World Cup win in Qatar last December ended the South American powerhouse's decades-long World Cup drought.

The Top 5 Greatest Argentina Soccer Players of All Time

Argentina has a lot of legendary soccer players, but we are only looking at the five who we think are the best of the best. These are all legends in their own right, though they are not ranked in any particular order.

Mario Kempes

Before Lionel Messi in Qatar and Diego Maradona's "Hand of God" incident in Mexico, there was Mario Kempes. He was the hero of Argentina's first World Cup win in 1978, scoring six goals in total, including two very crucial ones in the final match against the Netherlands, according to GOAL.

Daniel Passarella

Mario Kempes might be Argentina's first World Cup hero, but Daniel Passarella is currently the only Argentinian with two World Cups as a player. He first won it alongside Kempes in 1978 and then again in 1986.

According to Bleacher Report, he is also regarded as one of the greatest FIFA legends of all time, being named one of the 125 Greatest Living Footballers at FIFA's 100th anniversary.

Gabriel Omar Batistuta

Gabriel Omar Batistuta may be the only one on the list without a World Cup win under his belt, but he certainly deserves to be named one of the country's greatest soccer stars.

Latino Life describes him as a player with a predatory nose for goals. "Batigol" was a dominant player and was Argentina's leading scorer in World Cups before that last one.

Lionel Messi

We cannot talk about Argentine soccer greats without "La Pulga" himself. He may be short, but Lionel Messi has won seven Ballon d'Ors; a lot of Spanish, European, and French titles; and a Copa America. However, he has not won a World Cup until last year, when they ended the decades-long Argentina World Cup drought.

It was when he cemented himself as the true GOAT. In the eyes of many, Messi is the best player in the world right now, and he is taking his talents to South Beach next.

Diego Maradona

If we are talking about Argentina soccer players, we cannot ignore one name, Diego Armando Maradona. To Argentina, he is "God" himself, and his World Cup heroics have made him the country's other legendary player. He also did the impossible, turning a low-ranked Italian team, Napoli, from almost getting relegated to the champions of Europe. Aside from Messi, no other player can come close to his legend in Argentina.
