A new book alleges that during the early days of Donald Trump's presidency, security officials were afraid that he might have caused a nuclear war with North Korea after some incendiary comments that he made.

Former Homeland Security official Miles Taylor, who worked under Trump, is releasing a new book titled, "Blowback: A Warning to Save Democracy from the Next Trump." An excerpt from the book was obtained by Politico, and it depicts several top security officials in a panic as a standoff between the US and North Korea was brewing in 2017.

While Trump has been praising North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un lately, earlier in his presidency, it was much different as Trump answered North Korean missile tests with his usual Trumpian comments, warning that North Korean provocation would "be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen."

However, Trump provoking Kim did not sit well with his national security officials. In the excerpt, Taylor admitted in his book that as Trump was escalating tensions with Kim, experts were laying down "various scenarios of a nuclear strike on the US homeland, dusted off response plans, and outlined best-case scenarios which nevertheless sounded horrifically grim."

New Book Says Donald Trump's 'Fire and Fury' Threats Could Have Stoked Nuclear War

As president, Donald Trump was quite unpredictable, especially with the things that he would say or tweet.

Taylor confirmed this in his book, saying, "In the national security world, anything having to do with nuclear weapons is handled with extreme sensitivity - well planned, carefully scripted - yet we didn't know what Trump might say at any given moment."

When Trump said his "Fire and Fury" threat to North Korea, Taylor stated that national security officials were already bracing themselves for the worst, saying that the then-POTUS "almost seemed to welcome a nuclear conflict, which terrified us."

According to Rolling Stone, Taylor was the once-anonymous official who wrote a New York Times op-ed about a "resistance inside the Trump administration" that was working to thwart his agenda.

These days, however, Trump is not threatening nuclear war against Kim Jong Un anymore and even infamously kept his "love letters" with the North Korean leader, something which is now subject to a federal investigation regarding Trump illegally keeping classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.

Donald Trump Attacks Another Kim, Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds

While Trump almost started a nuclear war with North Korea's Kim during his presidency, he recently blasted Iowa's own Kim, Republican Gov. Kim Reynolds, for staying neutral in his feud with Gov. Ron DeSantis.

According to CNN, Trump claimed that he boosted her successful 2018 gubernatorial bid with his endorsement and questioned her appearance last week at several of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis's events.

DeSantis himself jumped to Kim Reynolds's aid, saying that she is "a strong leader who knows how to ignore the chirping and get it done." The Trump rival also added, "She earned a landslide re-election because she delivered big results, and she is poised to deliver even more for Iowans in the special session."
