A federation president kissing his player during the FIFA Women's World Cup without her consent is currently the biggest scandal in soccer. Spain star Jenni Hermoso is pressing charges against the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) president, Luis Rubiales, over sexual assault because of that kiss.

According to ESPN, the La Roja forward, who plays in Mexico for Pachura, has already pressed charges against the now-suspended RFEF president for kissing her without her consent during the aftermath of the FIFA Women's World Cup Final in Australia, where Spain defeated England.

Luis Rubiales is currently facing a different probe by Spain's top sports court (TAD) and FIFA. He has also been suspended by the RFEF over the unsolicited kiss.

As for Hermoso, she was offered the opportunity to file a complaint against Rubiales by Spanish prosecutors. Sources confirmed to CNN that she was given 15 days to file the complaint and did so, appearing in person to formalize the complaint.

Back in August, when the scandal broke, she released a statement saying that the "kiss was not consensual" and that she "felt vulnerable and the victim of aggression, an impulsive, sexist act." Because of this, legal experts say that the Spanish Football Federation president's actions can be considered "sexual harassment on the basis of current Spanish legislation."

Rubiales might face some jail time for his actions should he be successfully prosecuted, but this might be unlikely as prison sentences under two years are usually suspended in Spain if the person found guilty has no prior criminal record.

As for jurisdiction, Spanish law allows for crimes done abroad to be prosecuted in Spanish courts if the parties involved are Spanish nationals. However, that offense must also be illegal where the crime took place. In this case, this is applicable as sexual assault is also definitely a crime in Australia.

Spain Women's Team Coach Fired After Luis Rubiales Kissing Scandal

Luis Rubiale is currently suspended by the RFEF amid the investigations, with Interim Spanish Football Federation president Pedro Rocha taking his place. One of his first acts was to fire the coach who brought the country's first-ever FIFA Women's World Cup, Jorge Vilda.

"The RFEF would like to express its gratitude to Jorge Vilda for the services he has provided, for his professionalism and dedication during all these years, wishing him the best of success in the future," a statement from the federation read before apologizing for "the inappropriate conduct of Luis Rubiales" in another statement, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Fired Spanish Soccer Coach Said Outrage Over Luis Rubiales Kissing Jenni Hermoso Was 'Nonsense'

Vilda was so successful that he gave Spain the World Cup, so why fire him? It may stem from his statements regarding the outrage over what transpired between Luis Rubiales and Jenni Hermoso, calling the anger that fans had "real nonsense."

"[It] generated an unprecedented situation, tarnishing a well-deserved victory for our players and our country," said the coach in an interview. "There is no doubt that it is unacceptable and does not reflect at all the principles and values that I defend in my life, in sport in general and in football in particular."

However, CBS Sports noted that Vilda was seen clapping when Rubiales spoke about the controversy in a speech where he repeatedly said, "I will not resign."
