It was a scene of horror near the entrance of the Cristo Salvador cemetery in Santo Domingo Este, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, as authorities discovered the bodies of six dead babies, all of whom were newborns.

The grisly discovery happened on Wednesday morning at the cemetery's front gates. All six babies had blue and pink bracelets on their wrists and were wrapped in paper that was believed to be associated with a local hospital in the area. The hospital was identified as the Ciudad Juan Bosch Hospital.

Footage from the gruesome scene surfaced, and according to Listin Diario, the dead newborn babies had a white blanket placed over their bodies. They were reportedly wearing disposable diapers and shoes that had the hospital's name engraved upon them.

Police are still investigating the incident, and not many details of how these bodies were brought to the cemetery or who brought them have been revealed. It is a joint investigation that involves not just the Dominican Republic National Police but also the Dirección Central de Investigación (DICRIM), which is the country's equivalent of the FBI.

How the Dead Babies Were Discovered Outside a Dominican Republic Cemetery

The Cristo Salvador cemetery can be found in Santo Domingo Este, a municipality in Santo Domingo province, which holds the country's capital city. There, the horrifying discovery was found.

According to the US Sun, the discovery was made by a man named Angel Cuesta, who lives near the cemetery. He spoke to local media about how he saw the dead babies.

Cuesta revealed that he initially only saw one dead baby outside the cemetery near his home. Upon seeing one, he immediately called authorities. "When I awoke and I saw it, I called 911, but I only saw one baby. The other kids were found when National Police arrived," he told local media.

The Santo Domino Este resident also noted that his neighbors have already requested that police install more lighting and cameras in the area of the cemetery.

Medical Examiner Reveals More Details About Dead Babies Dumped Outside a Santo Domingo Cemetery

The six dead newborn babies were reportedly comprised of four girls and two boys, all of whom still had hospital tags around their feet and wrists. Dr. Angi Vicioso, a local medical examiner, was at the scene and stated that there were no signs of violence.

According to the Associated Press, Dr. Vicioso found that the dead babies were all born on different dates. She did an examination at the site where they were found and noted that some of the dead babies were stillborn while the others died a few hours after being born, according to the Associated Press.

Santo Domingo Este Security Chief Fausto Ortiz, meanwhile, noted that only one of the bodies was found uncovered while the others were placed inside a plastic bag.

As for the hospital where the babies were suspected to have come from, Marilelda Reyes, the hospital's director, stated that the bodies of six newborns were supposed to be delivered to Funeral Home La Popular for a proper burial on Tuesday. However, it is still unknown whether these six dead babies were the same ones found in Santo Domingo Este on Wednesday.

The funeral home declined to comment on the incident.
