Donald Trump's gag order in his New York fraud trial and Trump attorney Christopher Kise lashed out and called it a "tragic day for the rule of law" while the people Trump has been threatening and spreading misinformation about are breathing a sigh of relief.

After its reinstatement, Judge Arthur Engoron vowed to enforce it "rigorously and vigorously." While he allowed Trump to continue attacking him, he drew the line at the former president spreading false claims regarding his staff, particularly his clerk, whom Trump accused of being a "second judge" and an "Anti-Trump" operative.

Trump has repeatedly posted and made derogatory comments against Judge Engoron's law clerk, including a baseless allegation about the clerk's personal life, which Donald Trump could not provide any evidence of. In addition, Engoron has admitted that the law clerk, as well as himself and his family, have been receiving death threats due to Trump's baseless allegations.

However, Trump is playing the "political speech" card, with spokesman Steven Cheung calling the gag order "nothing but attempted election interference, which is failing terribly." While he said this, the gag order was still reinstated.

The former president's attorneys have been challenging the gag order and sued Engoron, claiming it was an abuse of power. However, state lawyers supported it and said it was a reasonable step to protect Engoron's staff from threats.

As for the clerk, it was revealed last week that she "received enough harassing voicemails to fill a transcript with 275 single-spaced pages." The Associated Press noted that about half the harassing and disparaging messages to her were antisemitic. Despite this, Trump's attorneys still argued the former president should not be gagged because of the behavior of his supporters.

Donald Trump Says Gag Order Is Not Justified Even if His Supporters Are Threatening Law Clerk

Lawyers for the New York attorney general's office stated that the threats against the principal law clerk for Judge Engoron are "serious and credible" and therefore warranting a gag order. However, Trump's attorneys are saying otherwise.

According to CNN, Trump's lawyers argued that "Trump's First Amendment right to criticize and call out his perception of bias" is "essential" to maintaining public confidence in the trial, even if Trump has been actively degrading his supporters' trust in the outcome by complaining that the judge is biased against him.

Donald Trump Also Targeting New York Fraud Trial Judge's Wife

Aside from Engoron and the clerk in his New York Fraud trial, Trump is also spreading rumors regarding Engroron's wife, Dawn Engoron, stating that she had been claiming that she had been talking about the ongoing trial and that the former president is "headed to the big house."

"Judge Engoron's Trump Hating wife, together with his very disturbed and angry law clerk, have taken over control of the New York State Witch Hunt Trial aimed at me, my family, and the Republican Party," he wrote on a Truth Social post on Wednesday, before the gag order.

However, Dawn Engoron spoke with The Hill and denied anything to do with the account that Trump is accusing her of having, telling the outlet, "The Twitter account with the handle [sic] @dm_sminxs does not belong to me. I do not have a Twitter account. I have never posted any anti Trump messages."

Trump supporter Laura Loomer shared so-called posts by Dawn Engoron, which Trump used to further smear the judge.
