Ruby Franke, the well-known YouTube mom facing multiple charges of aggravated child abuse, is set to plead guilty on Monday, according to her attorney, LaMar Winward, as per ABC News.

The development marks the first public statement from Franke and her legal representative since her arrest. The plea is scheduled to take place at the Washington County 5th District Court in Utah.

Franke's business partner and mental health counselor, Jodi Hildebrant, who also faces six counts of aggravated child abuse in connection with the case, has not entered a plea.

Both women were arrested on August 30 after Franke's 12-year-old son, staying at Hildebrandt's residence, escaped through a window and reported abuse to a neighbor.

Allegations and Defense

In a statement released by Winward Law, Franke's legal representation, it is alleged that Hildebrandt led Ruby Franke astray by systematically isolating her from her extended family, older children, and her husband over an extended period.

This isolation purportedly resulted in YouTube mom being subjected to a distorted sense of morality shaped by Hildebrandt's influence, according to CBS News.

However, Jodi Hildebrandt's attorney, Douglas Terry, declined to comment on these assertions.

Prosecutors contend that Franke and Hildebrandt either caused or allowed the torture of Franke's 12-year-old son and inflicted harm on her 10-year-old daughter, leading to allegations of starvation and emotional abuse.

In an affidavit submitted by an officer from the Santa Clara-Ivins Public Safety Department, it was reported that on August 30, Franke's 12-year-old son escaped through a window at Hildebrandt's residence in Ivins.

Seeking help, the boy went to a neighbor's house, expressing a need for food and water.

Disturbingly, the neighbor noticed duct tape on the boy's ankles and wrists, prompting a call to the police.

Following the incident, the boy was transported to a hospital and placed on a medical hold due to severe lacerations from being tied up with rope and signs of malnourishment, according to arrest records.

According to the boy, "Jodi" was responsible for binding his ankles and wrists.

A search warrant filed that day revealed the use of cayenne pepper and honey to treat the wounds caused by the ropes.

While cayenne pepper has historical medicinal use, it is cautioned against cracked skin or open wounds, as stated by Mount Sinai.

Further investigation uncovered the YouTube mom's malnourished daughter within Hildebrandt's residence, leading to her hospitalization.

Subsequently, Franke's children, including the two mentioned previously, were placed under the care of child protective services.

YouTube Channel and Controversies

Ruby Franke, known for her YouTube channel "8 Passengers," with 2.5 million subscribers at its peak, faced allegations of child abuse and criticism over her family's content and parenting style, Business Insider noted.

The family refuted these claims in a 2020 interview with Business Insider. However, the channel was eventually taken offline.

Franke then created a new channel, "ConneXions," with Hildebrandt.

Described as a mom's "support group," the channel claimed to help those struggling with various challenges.

It was criticized for its teachings, which some perceived as damaging, extreme, and authoritarian.

The Franke family has faced additional scrutiny since the abuse allegations.

Ruby Franke's husband, Kevin, who was not arrested, claims he had no knowledge of the abuse.

In a recent statement, Kevin's attorney, Randy Kester, accused Hildebrandt of brainwashing and isolating Kevin.

Kevin filed for divorce with the YouTube mom in November, with custody matters involving the couple's children now under the jurisdiction of the juvenile court system.
