Political Action Committees (PACs) are supposed to gather money for campaign purposes. However, Donald Trump is using his MAGA Inc. PAC to pay for his legal fees as they continue to mount after he suffers legal defeat after legal defeat in court, as well as various ongoing criminal indictments and lawsuits.

The Trump PAC reportedly spent more money than it raised last year, with $50 million being spent on the embattled former president's legal fees throughout 2023 alone. This was revealed by the Trump campaign's finance reports filed last Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

MAGA Inc. is a super PAC and has been the one that is largely supporting the former president's legal fees, raking in over $56 million in cash between the two committees. Even with this, however, Trump remains the Republican frontrunner against former US Ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, leading her by a huge margin.

The two PACs that are part of the MAGA Inc Super PAC that are paying the former president's legal fees are the Save America PAC and the Make America Great Again PAC. CBS noted that Donald Trump's leadership PAC, the Save America PAC, is paying for his lawyers. However, it was revealed that it only has over $5 million cash on hand, with his other PACs also spending more money than what they have been raising.

Over $49.6 million of donor money has now been spent on these Trump legal battles, and these include attorneys, legal consulting, and investigation-related fees. It also showed that these two PACS spent over $28 million during the last six months of 2023 alone, with the rest of the money being spent during the first half of last year.

Nikki Haley Calls Out Donald Trump For Having Donors Fund His Legal Fees

Despite being worth billions thanks to his real-estate empire, Donald Trump is infamous for not spending money on his lawyers. This fact has been seen as it is his donors who are footing his legal fees, and his top Republican rival, Nikki Haley, has pounced on this.

"It is unconscionable to me that a candidate would spend $50 million in legal fees," she said in a CNN interview with Jake Tapper. "It explains why he's not doing many rallies. He doesn't have the money to do it. It explains why he doesn't want to get on a debate stage because he doesn't want to talk about why he's doing it."

The former South Carolina governor also suggested that Trump was angry after the New Hampshire primary despite winning it because of his recent financial situation, with many Republican mega-donors such as the Kochs going to her.

Donald Trump New York Fraud Trial Verdict Delayed

Speaking of Donald Trump's financial problems, the former president is expected to be slapped with a very hefty fine in his New York fraud trial that he is likely using funds from his PACs to pay.

However, per CNBC, he can take a breather as Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron has stated that the verdict in that case is now expected to arrive by early to mid-February.

Aside from the fine, Trump may also lose his license to do business in New York and have him barred from doing business in the state.
