NBC News took swift action on Tuesday, removing Ronna McDaniel, former chair of the Republican National Committee, from her role as a paid political analyst.

The decision followed a wave of criticism from the network's top anchors, who expressed concerns over ex-RNC chair McDaniel's involvement in disputing the 2020 election and her attacks on the media, according to CNN.

President of NBCUniversal News Group Cesar Conde addressed staff concerns in a memo, acknowledging the challenging situation and announcing McDaniel's departure.

Conde took full responsibility for the decision and issued a personal apology to team members who felt let down.

Prior to NBC's decision, McDaniel had spent the day interviewing attorneys in preparation for a potential legal battle with the network.

Additionally, the Creative Artists Agency, responsible for brokering McDaniel's deal with NBC, also severed ties with her.

The reversal came after journalists and anchors at both NBC and MSNBC publicly criticized the decision to hire Ronna McDaniel.

This on-air rebuke of network leadership was unprecedented and caused embarrassment for NBC.

McDaniel, who resigned from her position at the RNC under pressure from former President Donald Trump, was implicated in efforts to overturn the 2020 election results.

Internal Concerns Lead to Reevaluation

The announcement of Ronna McDaniel's hiring sparked internal discontent, prompting her new colleagues to express reservations.

NBC revisited McDaniel's contract, reportedly worth $300,000 annually, in response to these concerns.

Chuck Todd, NBC's chief political analyst, raised doubts about McDaniel's credibility during a conversation with Meet the Press moderator Kristen Welker.

Todd suggested that McDaniel's answers in previous segments might have been influenced by her contractual obligations to NBC, Variety reports.

Rachel Maddow, a prominent figure at NBC, criticized the decision to hire the ex-RNC chair, McDaniel, for her primetime show.

Maddow expressed bewilderment at the choice, citing McDaniel's history of attacking the media and spreading false claims about the election.

Ronna McDaniel announced her resignation from the RNC in February, describing her tenure as an honor and privilege.

However, her unsubstantiated claims of election fraud following the 2020 election have since been disproven.

Maddow Leads On-Air Criticism

Rachel Maddow dedicated a significant portion of her show to scrutinizing McDaniel's hiring, labeling it as "inexplicable."

Maddow condemned McDaniel's history of attacking the press and perpetuating baseless claims about the election process, NPR noted.

Maddow emphasized the importance of journalistic integrity and voiced solidarity with her colleagues who objected to McDaniel's hiring.

The on-air criticism extended to NBC's top leadership, including Cesar Conde and Rebecca Blumenstein, who were responsible for the appointment of the ex-RNC chair McDaniel.

In response to the backlash, Conde announced Ronna McDaniel's dismissal, signaling a willingness to listen to feedback and uphold journalistic standards.

Rachel Maddow and Joy Reid, another MSNBC host, praised the decision as a demonstration of strength and respect for the network's values.
