Despite often boasting that he is rich, Donald Trump is in massive financial trouble, and this is shown in his new joint fundraising agreement with the Republican National Committee (RNC), which he wants to direct the donations it receives to not just his presidential campaign, but also to the political action committee that pays for his legal bills.

The Associated Press has obtained a copy of Trump's fundraising invitation, and it has revealed that the money that donors will be making to the RNC would be sent to the Trump Campaign and his Save America PAC before the RNC itself even gets a cut of the donations.

As the AP noted, this could mean that RNC donors could see their donated money go to Donald Trump's lawyers rather than the Republican Party itself. These Trump lawyers have received at least $76 million over the last two years, defending him on his four criminal indictments and various civil cases. The move of funneling RNC money into Trump's legal battle is now troubling some Republicans.

As for the invitation from Trump, it was to lure high-dollar donors to Palm Beach, Florida, for an April 6 fundraiser. The invitation letter itself stated in the fine print that "the Trump 47 Committee will first be used to give the maximum amount allowed under federal law to Trump's campaign." The leftovers will next go to the Save America PAC, with the rest going to the RNC and state political parties.

RNC donations usually go to Republican races all over the US, but with the new Trump-backed RNC headed by his own daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, those state races will have to take a backseat as the Trump Campaign and his legal battles should go first.

The RNC itself has been struggling with money problems as of late, and Trump's latest moves could deal a much bigger blow for the rest of the party in November.

Donald Trump Urging Supporters To Donate Money To Him in New Fundraising Letter

The biggest of Trump's financial troubles is the almost $500 million judgment in the New York fraud case. With this, he is not just targeting the big-money donors but also his more ardent supporters in trying to fund his ever-growing legal bills. In a fundraising email to his supporters with the headline "Keep your filthy hands off Trump Tower!" he urges supporters to pay for his legal fees.

"Insane radical Democrat AG Letitia James wants to SEIZE my properties in New York. This includes the iconic Trump Tower," the email read, urging supporters to Donate. Democrats think that this will intimidate me. They think that if they take my cash to stifle my campaign, that I'll GIVE UP!"

Donald Trump Behind Joe Biden in Campaign Fundraising

Meanwhile, that donation money going to his legal fees also means that Trump is way behind Joe Biden in terms of cash. A report from the Trump Campaign and his Save America PAC has shown that they raised a combined $15.9 million in February and ended the month with more than $37 million on hand.

However, the incumbent president has managed to raise a lot more than this, with his campaign raising $53 million last month and ending February with $155 million on hand, according to the Associated Press.
