Former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis, aged 35, was discovered deceased at a residence in South Florida, confirmed by Davie police.

The police were alerted by the house assistant at 6051 SW 178th Avenue, where Davis resided, ESPN reports.

Initial investigations suggest there was no foul play.

However, the cause of death remains under investigation, and the Broward County Office of Medical Examiner and Trauma Services stated that determining Davis's cause of death may take up to 90 days.

A Career in Football

Former NFL cornerback Vontae Davis played in 121 games over ten seasons in the NFL, with stints at the Miami Dolphins, Indianapolis Colts, and Buffalo Bills.

He embarked on his professional career with the Miami Dolphins after being chosen in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft, after his college football experience at Illinois.

Notably, Davis was traded to the Indianapolis Colts after three seasons with the Dolphins.

His tenure in Indianapolis was marked by significant achievements, including being named to the Pro Bowl in 2014 and 2015.

In 2014, he signed a substantial four-year contract extension worth $36 million.

Despite his successes, Davis made headlines in 2018 when he abruptly retired during halftime of a game with the Buffalo Bills, citing personal reasons and a desire to prioritize his health and well-being.

"I had more of an out-of-body, spiritual moment, and my intuition was telling me that football was no longer for me," he informed CNN during that period.

He expressed that he doesn't perceive it as quitting. Instead, he believes it's a matter of recognizing when a game no longer supports him mentally, physically, and emotionally.

That's the message he would convey to those who accuse him of quitting.

He emphasized that most people are unaware of his personal journey and the challenges he has faced to achieve his success.
