The Bigfoot hunters starring on Animal Planet's hit television series "Finding Bigfoot" recently took a trip to New Jersey in search of the mythical creature.

Each week on the popular program, four researchers travel to a different location in the United States and interview people who claim to have seen Bigfoot. Then the researchers set up re-enactments of the sighting to try to prove the existence of Sasquatch.

On June 21, the "Finding Bigfoot" went looking for a Sasquatch in the mountainous terrain of rural Sussex County, NJ.com reported.

"We don't want people to be crawling around in the woods while the team is there," said Joe James, producer of the North Jersey episode, according to The Daily Record.

Before beginning their search, the team -- which consists of Bigfoot Field Research Organization (BFRO) President Matt Moneymaker, researchers James "Bobo" Fay and Cliff Barackman, and scientist Ranae Holland -- held a town hall-style meeting where more than a dozen people shared local stories of seeing the legendary beast.

"These are the best stories we've had in years," said one local who attend the town hall wearing a "Keep It Squatchy" cap. "This is Jersey, baby!" yelled another enthusiastic attendee in the audience.

The "Finding Bigfoot" episode featuring Northwest Jersey will air later this year and maybe as late as December. It will be the second episode where the hunters went on a search in New Jersey. The first time, the team came up empty handed when they went on a trek to the Pine Barrens.

Although "Finding Bigfoot" is now in its fifth season, critics say that the producers may want to consider renaming it "Searching for Bigfoot" since that the investigators have yet to actually find the beast.
