As he seeks to make history on Sunday by bringing home the third World Cup title in Argentina's history, Lionel Messi has been one of the breakout players in the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

His four goals rank second for the tournament, only two behind Colombian striker James Rodriguez.

Messi has been one of the best international players over the last several years. Messi has scored more than 350 goals for Barcelona and Argentina combined, so he has a lot of memorable goals on his résumé.

Latin Post.com takes a look at the five greatest goals of one of futbol's best players:

5. Messi Scores Only Goal in Extra Time Against Iran (2014 World Cup)

Argentina went undefeated in Group F, but every game was decided by one goal.

With the score tied 0-0 after 90 minutes against Iran, extra time was added. A loss to Iran would have been devastating. Enter Messi, who beat Iranian goalkeeper Alireza Haghighi for what would be the only goal of the game as Argentina would defeat Iran, 1-0.

4. Messi Secures Group F Title (2014 World Cup)

Nigeria surprised a lot of people this World Cup. Coming into this game, they were just three points behind Argentina for the group lead. Late in the first half, with the score tied 1-1, Messi scored putting Argentina up 2-1. Argentina would eventually win the game 3-2, securing a perfect 3-0 record and a spot in the knockout stage.

3. Bosnia Gets Messi (2014 World Cup)

This was Bosnia's first appearance in a World Cup, and they couldn't stop Lionel Messi all game long. Just three minutes into the game, Messi shot the ball towards the net, and Sead Kolašinac accidently hit it into his own goal. In the 65th minute, Messi would add some insurance with another goal (this one he hit in) and Argentina would eventually win 2-1.

2. Messi Ties Things Up Against Madrid (El Clasico, 2007)

It's well known that FC Barcelona and Real Madrid have a heated rivalry. Names have been made and broken between these two clubs over the decades. In March of 2007, at just 19 years old, Messi's legacy took a great leap forward. Messi already had two goals as his club trailed 3-2 to Madrid. Messi would score a late goal, tying up the game and scoring the first hat trick between these two since 1994. Many people believe this was Messi's coming out party.

1. Messi Uses His Head (2009 UEFA Championship)

Messi has scored a lot of memorable goals, but this is one he'll remember forever.

Barcelona was taking on Manchester United in the 2009 UEFA Championship in Rome. By this time, Messi was already known around the world for his offensive talents, but a great performance here would solidify his greatness. With Barcelona leading just 1-0, Messi headed in a great pass Xavi to make the score 2-0 in the 70th minute. Manchester would never recover.
