Last week, Mexican director Guillermo del Toro shared some details about the upcoming "Pacific Rim " sequel.

During a panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Guillermo del Toro revealed that his favorite character is one from 2013's "Pacific Rim," Los Angeles Times reported.

"To me, my favorite character in many ways is Mako Mori in 'Pacific Rim,'" he shared. "I just love it. It's an experience that you can't get any other way."

Perhaps del Toro will get to work with the character, who was played by Rinko Kikuchi in the 2013 movie, soon as the first steps in creating the sequel will be taken in a few weeks.

"We start designing in three weeks," del Toro said. "We get the first draft of the screenplay in three weeks. Zak Penn and I are co-writing, and then there's a long, long, long journey of drafts and design."

Any actual movie footage is many months away, however.

"It took nine months to design 'Pacific Rim'; it will take nine months or more to design the second one," del Toro said. "We start scouting for the movie in the summer next year, July, and then we start shooting in November. Then it's a long year of post after we wrap, and we'll probably be showing the movie in January/February 2017 to test audiences."

Del Toro also revealed that the "Pacific Rim" sequel takes place "all over the world this time."

"I want it to be different enough to the first one that you don't feel you're seeing the same movie," he said. "I'm doing a little more location-oriented stuff, there are night battles, but there are also daylight battles."

The director described a new path for Raleigh, who was played by Charlie Hunnam in the first film.

"We are expanding the mythology of the Anteverse," del Toro said. "We are taking the characters into a completely different journey this time because Raleigh for me solved his problem the minute he was able to go full circle and save Mako by sacrificing himself, which is what he couldn't do with his brother. He's not on that journey anymore. He's on a new journey."

"Pacific Rim 2" hits theaters April 7, 2017.
