The final major of the year is already halfway complete as the 2014 PGA Championship enters Day 3 on Saturday.

Rory McIlroy is leading the pack after two terrific days of play. The 25-year-old from Northern Ireland shot five-under-par on Thursday and four-under-par on Friday. His combined nine-under par is one ahead of Australian, Jason Day. McIlroy has won three majors in his career, most notably this year's British Open, where he led from start to finish.

By far, the biggest disappointment from Day 2 was Tiger Woods. Because of his terrible performance, Woods will not be playing this weekend. Woods shot six-over-par, three shots worse than 64-year-old Tom Watson. The next time we will see Woods at a major will be next year's Masters, in April. The cut after two days was even par.

A lot of eyes will be on Phil Mickelson on Saturday. Mickelson last won the PGA Championship back in 2005, but he's currently tied for fifth place at six-under-par.

Sergio Garcia had a rather disappointing Friday. Unable to adapt to the rain, Garcia shot one-over-par, and is now tied for 53rd place. Rafael Cabrera-Bello, also from Spain, had a good Friday. Cabrera-Bello is the leading Spanish born golfer at the PGA Championship at two-under-par.

Jim Furyk will definitely garner a lot attention this weekend. Although he hasn't won a major since the 2003 US Open, Furyk is currently tied for second place. The 44-year-old veteran finished second in last year's PGA Championship, and fourth in this year's British Open.

Rickie Fowler, Ryan Palmer and Mikko Ilonen are all tied for third place at seven-under-par.

Day 2 was very rainy, which brought upon a weather delay. There's no shame in shooting just one-under-par or even on Friday. Of course, the scores were not as low on the second day as the first. For Saturday, there is a chance for scattered showers in the afternoon. Let's just hope we don't get another rain delay.

If McIlroy can hold on to this one-stroke lead, it will be his second consecutive major victory, and the fourth of his career. Last year's PGA Champion, Jason Dufner, had to withdraw because of a neck issue.
