"Arrested Development" will be returning for a fifth season on Netflix, as confirmed by the on-demand online streaming service company and actor Will Arnett. The news was actually first announced by head of content of Netflix Ted Sarandos, but it was Arnett who confirmed the return of the television series on his recent guest appearance on Jimmy Fallon's show, Slate reports.

Sarandos also said in an interview with USA Today that he was positive that the show would be back for a new season and that it was just a matter of time as to when it would be back. However, showrunner Mitchell Hurwitz has yet to address concerns audiences have had over the fourth season since the show ended.

While "Arrested Development" could enjoy numerous advantages from going online instead of to traditional media for shows, there are a few complaints about the structure of the series and how it would fit its new platform.

It would be good for the show to follow the streaming format, given that "Arrested Development" features running gags and intricate storytelling that often overlaps. However, it tends to focus on particular characters rather than the entire cast as a whole on screen.

Sarandos said that it was a "fair criticism" but followed up by saying that scheduling of shooting and coordinating with all the actors would be a problem, as some of them also have commitments to other shows. For instance, Tony Hale will be returning to play his role on "Veep," while Arnett stars in "The Millers" and Jeffrey Tambor will be on Amazon's "Transparent."

Netflix has been taking big steps in becoming more competitive in the industry, not only against other streaming services but even traditional media as well. Acquiring "Arrested Development" is another step that could further boost its performance with its shows.
