During her exclusive interview with Du Jour magazine, Katie Holmes opened up about the newfound confidence she embodies as an actress and the reason behind her acting "dry spell" during her marriage to Tom Cruise.

Although Holmes has established herself as an actress for over a decade, the 35-year-old mother of one revealed that she was not always  "comfortable" with acting. Holmes' confidence with acting is something that she developed over time with experience and age.

"I think I've gotten more comfortable with acting over time," Holmes revealed to Du Jour. "Early on, I could never get out of my head. I'd be thinking, 'I have to get the job.' And even when I had the job, I was afraid that I was going to get fired, or I just had the mentality of, 'I need to be good enough."

"The more projects you do, the older you get, the more life experience you get, you start to understand storytelling better. So you're a little bit more confident going in. You're not afraid of getting fired: You just want to contribute," she continued.

Both E! News and Du Jour note that during Holmes' seven-year marriage to Cruise, the former "Dawson's Creek" actress went through a bit of a dry spell in her acting career.

Despite both of the publications' observations, Holmes revealed that she does not blame Cruise for her acting dry spell. Instead, she attributes her freeze in acting work to the typical "life of an actor."

"It's the life of an actor," she said. "We don't really have a lot of choice in the matter. You have dry spells, and then you have times when there is a lot of opportunity."

Holmes' latest acting project, "The Giver," is out in theatres now.
