On Sunday, Robert Pattinson's girlfriend and London-based singer FKA twigs slammed the online critics that have left racist comments regarding the singer's appearance on her social media accounts.

Since going public with her relationship with Pattinson last week, the Daily Mail reports that twigs -- who is part Jamaican, English and Spanish -- has been subject to racist jabs made by social media users that have made fun of twigs for her appearance and even called her names such as "monkey."

Another user said:

Despite the racist remarks, twigs continues to keep her head held high and posted an Instagram photo of herself with a caption embracing her culture and ethnicity.

Twigs also addressed her appearance and her dealings with racism during an interview for the June 2014 issue of "Dazed."

The "Two Weeks" singer explained that despite being subject to racism, she never "really saw anything wrong" with how she looked.

"I never really saw anything wrong with how I looked, it was more that certain people pointed things out to you about yourself. Either your hair's different, or the color of your skin, or your features," she said.

"Half of my life I've had people staring at me because they think I'm funny-looking and ugly," twigs added. "The other half of my life I've had people staring at me because they think I'm fascinating," she continued.

Although Pattinson has not spoken out about the racist jabs made towards his new girlfriend, an Us Weekly source claims that the two have a great connection.

"They are trying to avoid making a spectacle of their relationship, but at the same time both enjoy going out with their friends,"says the Us Weekly source.

"They connect on music, which is something that Rob keeps pretty close to his heart," the source continued. "A lot of his close friends are musicians. He loves her voice, he loves her sense of style as well, how unique she is."
