Microsoft has made it clear that the new Xbox One is not simply just a video game console. In the race to beat out the PS4, Microsoft has announced its new affiliation with the NFL and it also is working on a new show based on the storied Xbox game series, "Halo."

This week, Microsoft said it will be branching out beyond just the "Halo" show and will be creating additional shows with a production crew in Los Angeles, Calif. Director Steven Spielberg has been involved with the process as he works with Microsoft on the "Halo" show.

"They have literally hundreds of ideas that they are incubating right now," Microsoft Corporate Vice President Phil Spencer said. "We will have some new announcement for TV shows coming pretty soon."

Although the PS4 is said to be "50 percent faster" than the Xbox One, the interactivity is one area Sony needs to work on. Microsoft continues to partner up with entertainment giants such as the NFL and famous directors such as Steven Spielberg, helping to expand and build credibility to the brand

The approach is understandably much different than the one taken over a half decade ago when the Xbox 360 and the PS3 systems were launched. It seemed like such a big deal at that time when the game consoles had the ability to operate with DVD - and for the PS3, Blu-Ray as well - but now the game companies are fighting to catch up with the latest interactivity as people get used to bundling video, internet, and games together on one iPad or tablet.
