Texas state senator and women's rights activist Wendy Davis will announce her future political plans on October 3.

Davis rose to national fame earlier this summer when she stood up for women's rights and fought to stop an anti-abortion bill that was eventually signed into law by governor Rick Perry. President Barack Obama had sent a tweet supporting her, using the hashtag "#StandWithWendy."

"There's one question I've gotten quite often in the past few months," she said in a recent e-mail to her fans. "I've heard it online, while I'm traveling around the state, from the media, and in my Fort Worth neighborhood: What's next? On October 3rd, I'll be answering that question. And as part of my dedicated network of grassroots supporters, you will be among the very first to find out,"

"I can say with absolute certainty that I will run for one of two offices - either my state senate seat, or the governor's," she said.

Conservative attorney general Greg Abbott is expected to be the one up against Davis if she decides to move forward in her consideration to be the state's next governor.

Davis originally said she was going to announce her future plans by August, but she took some time to focus on her family. Her father has been dealing with health issues stemming from a surgery.

"I had hoped to make public my decision about that next week, but with everything that's going on with my dad, I won't be doing that," she said to the Texas Tribune back in August. "It's likely it will be late September before I do."
