In Tokyo last week, Microsoft hinted at the idea that Xbox One gamers will be able to play PS4 games through their Xbox.

Although Microsoft's Albert Panello initially dodged the question, according to reporters, he ended up saying that "Any application can be snapped to a game...this could be the live TV feed, so if you wanted to be playing Ryse and Killzone at the same time, you could snap that." Because Killzone is only available on Sony's Playstation, it seemed like another way of saying the Xbox One will be compatible with the PS4.

With that being said, Panello later mentioned that it's not going to be the same kind of experience as it would be on the PS4.

"I'll get back with a more detailed story, but long story short it won't be a great experience, and I indicated as much in the interview which wasn't included. HDMI latency is fine for video feeds, but not great interactive.

Forbes writer Paul Tassi, who covers video games, technology, and Internet-related topcs, isn't buying much into the idea of playing PS4 through the Xbox One.

"Playing PS4 through your Xbox One sounds cool in theory, but I don't know if it's much more than a gimmick," he said. "Whether you're plugging your PS4 HDMI into your TV or your Xbox, it's really not going to affect how you use the system 99% of the time. These are features that sound like advancements, but I'm wondering if they really contribute anything meaningful to the living room experience."

In other recent news surrounding the Xbox One and PS4, Robert W. Baird analyst Colin Sebastian said that Grand Theft Auto V will be available on both of the incoming video game platforms in 2014. Considering that both systems are released just around a month before 2014, the release date wouldn't be off by much.
