Ivan Hurtado played in his final international game for Ecuador and his teammates made sure that it will be a memorable exit as they cruised to a convincing 5-1 win against El Salvador on Tuesday in New Jersey.

Hurtado made his final appearance for Ecuador after playing in 168 international matches. The 40-year-old defender, who captained the squad after being out of the lineup over the past four years, exited in the 42nd minute of the match when they were already comfortably ahead.

Joao Plata opened up the scoring parade for Ecuador as he netted his first goal in the 16th minute, while Enner Valencia scored one of his own two minutes later.

Valencia then set Plata up for another goal in the 25th minute to complete a brace in the first half, which was the 22-year-old forward's first two goals in four appearances for Ecuador.

Rafael Burgos netted El Salvador's first goal before the first half ended after Juan Paredes was called for a hand ball inside the box. However, Valencia found the back of the net again in the 73rd minute before substitute Cristian Penilla sealed the blowout victory with a goal in the 83rd minute.

With the win, Ecuador finally nailed a win after failing in their last two friendly matches. After scoring a 4-0 win against Bolivia on Sept. 6, Ecuador lost to Brazil, 1-0, on Sept. 19 before settling for a draw against United States on Friday in a match where U.S. striker Landon Donovan also made his final appearance.

Ecuador, on the other hand, took their second straight blowout loss on American soil. They also took a 3-0 beating against the Radamel Falcao-led Colombia on Friday at the Red Bull Arena.
