"Baywatch" actress Pamela Anderson has a lot of experience running on the beach, so why not run the streets of Manhattan for a cause?

The 46-year-old actress announced on Twitter that she's up for a 26.2 mile challenge on Nov. 3, tweeting: "I'm running the New York Marathon this year and raising funds for the J/P Haitian Relief Organization," according to E! Online.

"Together, I hope we can raise at least $500,000 and make a huge impact in this magical country," Anderson wrote on her fundraising page, which was reported by E! Online. "Keep checking my page and Facebook and Twitter to find out about all sorts of contests I'll be running from now until November - I will give updates on my training too.

"The J/P Haitian Relief Organization, co-founded by Sean Penn, is working to bring sustainable programs to the Haiti following the earthquake of 2010," USA TODAY reported.

"I have known Sean a long time. I love him dearly," Anderson said.

Why did the blond bombshell decide to support Haiti?

According to E! Online, Anderson wrote: "Poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Just a one-hour flight from Miami. How are we not more involved?" she writes. "Desperate need for things we take for granted - clean water, safe school structures, medical facilities, emergency rooms, reforestation possibilities - conservation, education...the opportunities are endless."It's nice to see that the actress is using her celebrity for a good cause."To spend time in Haiti is to fall in love with Haiti, she explained...."It has been heartbreaking to witness the poverty among people in what should be a very rich country...It feels good to help and it heals us too...I appreciate your interest and support."
