The iOS 8.1.1 update offers bug fixes, improved general stability and, most crucial, performance improvements for older devices, including the iPad 2, the third- and fourth-generation iPads and the iPhone 4S, reports TechCrunch.

The older iOS devices run iOS 8.0, but according to some users, performance has decreased as a result of the new version of iOS. This update should improve overall user experience for those who have already upgraded.

What the iOS 8.1.1 Improves

Apple says the latest update will fix the following:

  •  WiFi issues
  •  Battery life
  •  iOS 8 Bluetooth problems
  •  Revitalize iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and older iOS devices whose performance was hindered after upgrading to iOS 8

Early Results of the Apple iOS 8.1.1

Customers participating in the Apple iOS 8 Support Thread are reporting positive results from the beta iOS patch.

"Well its early days yet to tell for sure and I don't want to tempt fate, but so far for me it seems way faster now on 8.1.1," user dtcb67 writes. "Games are also now way more responsive and seem as they were on iOS7 so far. I will see if the Wi-Fi remains stable and has the range issues later, but thought I'd post to let you guys know, for me at least so far it seems to be a big improvement."

How to Download and Install iOS 8.1.1

iOS 8.1.1 is available as an over the air (OTA) update or you can download from iTunes.

Many iPhone and iPad users don't have enough free storage to download and install the update via OTA. The solution is to use iTunes. But if you download via iTunes, be sure to back up your data first.

To install iOS 8.1.1 as an OTA update on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, go to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the prompts.
