Will Microsoft be adding a smaller tablet to go along with the incoming Surface Pro Tablet 2 and Surface 2?

It was just last week that Microsoft pulled the tarp off their new gadgets, but people were left wondering whether a 7-inch tablet would be in the works. Most users are accustomed to having a smaller tablet to complement the larger one, just like we see with Apple's iPad and iPad mini.

Microsoft executive Panos Panay, speaking about the new tablets from a store in Seattle, was drilled with questions about a smaller tablet. Geek Wire's Todd Bishop said Panay wasn't quick to answer and took his time to choose his words carefully.

"We have a lot of great things that we are thinking about and working on, and there are multiple aspect ratios and sizes and awesome things to come from Surface. That's the best answer I have for you."

In other tablet-related news, Apple is facing criticism for failing to incorporate retina displays in the iPad Mini. Only this week did news break that Apple would likely be bringing retina displays to the smaller iPads but fans will still have to wait.

If Apple does come through with retina displays for the iPad Minis, the updated iPad Minis would only be available in smaller quantities this year, according to sources from Reuters. The timing would especially be significant this time of year because it would make the difference between cashing in on the black Friday sales or not.
