Actor William Levy said in a recent interview that he will not participate in any telenovelas next year. He did add–while talking with Primero Noticias–that he would not retire entirely from working on the small screen, as he will be focusing on a TV series and other film projects he is involved with in the U.S.

"We're preparing three projects for this upcoming year, including a series that I am going to produce that shows a little bit about the lives of Latinos, and we're also going to produce other movies," the 34-year-old actor said.

His announcement comes after speculation that he may return to the remake of "Cuna de Lobos," after the reboot "Por Derecho de Sangre," which he was supposed to star in, was initially canceled. However, Levy's confirmation that he is taking a break from all telenovelas means he will not be back in Mexico anytime soon.

Levy was originally due to star alongside Rebecca Jones, Danna Garcia, Rafael Amaya and Dominika Paleta. Now, the names rumored to be attached to the project are Leticia Calderon, Daniela Castro, Victoria Ruffo and Cynthia Klitbo.

The actor's decision to not return to telenovelas has been met with some controversy, as there are rumors swirling that Levy does not like working in Mexico. He was due to appear in "Sin Censura" but did not perform to the disappointment and criticism of his fans. When doing interviews in the country, Levy was completely surrounded by bodyguards during his visit.

Levy has defended himself and explained that those who say he dislikes Mexico are incorrect.

"Those things they say in Mexico, those magazines are very low level," Levy said. "It's not true at all. They said that I don't love Mexico, that I don't like Mexico, that I feel too above everything and that is a pure lie."
