GoPro cameras started off as cameras for surfers and snowboarders. You don't have to be an extreme athlete to have one, though; there is a solution for you if you want to enjoy a GoPro this holiday season.

Since GoPro's inception way back in 2002, the company has come a long way. In fact, their first camera was a 35mm not a digital camera.

In 2012, with the Hero3, GoPro took off. Now, there's the Hero4 series and a camera to suit almost every need.

Let's take a look the Hero series cameras that you can buy this holiday season.

First of all, you can spend as low as $130 at WalMart for a Hero camera. This is an entry-level GoPro, but don't let that cheap price point scare you away; it's still a great camera.

The Hero is an entry-level camera that shoots both 1080p30 and 720p60 video, but the quality is certainly less than the more expensive GoPros. You can dunk this camera in water up to 40 meters deep. The Hero also withstands drops and extreme temperatures as well.

Of course, like most cameras, the Hero takes microSD cards up to 32 GB.

One step up from the Hero is the Hero4 Silver. The price is quite different, but the features included create that price parity.

The Hero4 Silver has a built-in touch-screen that lets you view and interact with the videos you have recorded.

You will be able to shoot 4K video on this model at 15 frames per second. You will be able to shoot 1080p at 60 frames per second and 720p video at 120 frames per second.

The camera also shoots still pictures (12 megapixels). Just like the entry level Hero, you can dunk this camera in water and it withstands drops and extreme temperatures too.

This camera runs for about $400.

The top of the line Hero4 Black is about $100 higher. It shoots 4K video at 30 frames per second. 4K video files are huge, so keep that in mind when shooting in 4K mode.

The camera holds up to a 32 GB card for storage.

The extra $100 gives you the better 4K shooting but it lacks the handy viewscreen so, unless you're a professional videographer, purchase the Silver.

GoPro cameras come with GoPro Studio, a video editing software that will help you edit your videos.
