Canadian singer Avril Lavigne has recently revealed she has a serious illness and has asked her fans to keep her in their prayers as she continues to recuperate.

Although she did not reveal her illness or specific details about it, the singer best known for hits like “Complicated” and “Sk8er Boi” said she told a fan she had not been feeling well lately.

Twitter user @AvrilMusicChart direct-messaged the singer asking her why she had not released any music recently.

"I feel bad because I haven't been able to say anything to the fans to let them no (sic) why I've been absent. I'm torn as I'm quite private," Lavigne responded. "I'm not feeling well. I'm having some health issues. So please keep me in your prayers."

The Twitter user then shared screenshots of the conversation on Twitter.

According to the New York Daily News, fans began an outpour of support for the singer. The hashtags #GetWellSoonAvril and #PrayForAvril began being shared by fans of the 30-year-old singer. In turn, the singer thanked her millions of fans via social media.

Although there had been rumors that Lavigne’s illness may actually be a pregnancy, according to Billboard, a representative for Lavigne confirmed that she was sick and not pregnant. Her illness remains a mystery.

The singer married Nickelback lead singer Chad Kroeger back in 2013 and has been battling divorce rumors, though the couple denies them.
