Johnny Manziel failed to make an impact for the Cleveland Browns this season, creating speculation that the team will eventually look for another quarterback in the offseason.

Manziel, picked 22nd overall in the 2014 NFL Draft, had limited opportunities for the Browns this season as he played behind Brian Hoyer for the majority of the year. In seven quarters, the 22-year-old quarterback completed 18 of 35 passes for just 175 yards with no touchdown and two interceptions.

When asked if Cleveland will consider writing Manziel off after a quiet season on the field this year, Browns coach Mike Pettine said that the former Texas A&M standout will get another chance to prove his worth in 2015.

"He's a player on our roster," Pettine said of Manziel via ESPN. "He'll have the chance to compete."

Browns safety Donte Whitner also believes that it is too early to write Manziel off, considering the fact that he had limited opportunities to show what he is made off this season. Whitner admitted he is unsure of Manziel's demeanor in offensive meetings, but he liked what he saw from the rookie quarterback in their practices.

"From what I've seen and going against him on the scout team, he looked pretty good to us," Whitner said. "We'll see. He only played, what, seven quarters, six quarters. So you can't really judge based on that, so we'll have to wait probably another six months to a year to see how he really pans out."

Manziel, who lost in his first two NFL starts, admitted that he played poorly in his rookie season, especially in their humbling 30-0 loss to Cincinnati Bengals in his first start, but he said that it will be unfair to judge him based on the seven quarters he played this year.

"I don't think it would be fair to give up on somebody after seven quarters of football," Manziel said via Cleveland.com. "If that's what they intended on me coming in here doing, just giving them seven quarters, giving them a couple games and then looking somewhere else, I don't feel like that's a lot of commitment."
