George Zimmerman, the infamous former Florida neighborhood watch volunteer who was acquitted in the 2012 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, was arrested Friday on charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence with a weapon.

According to the Seminole County Sheriff's Office in Florida, local authorities arrested the 31-year-old in Lake Mary around 10 p.m. He was then booked at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility, where he is being held on $5,000 bond. He has also been ordered to surrender all firearms, reports USA Today.

Since his high-profile trial and acquittal in 2013, Zimmerman has had several other encounters with law enforcement officials in Florida.

In September 2013, Zimmerman's estranged wife, Shellie Zimmerman, called authorities to report he had punched her father and was using a gun to threaten her. However, she declined to press charges.

Two months later, in November, Zimmerman was arrested and accused of domestic violence by girlfriend Samantha Scheibe, who also dropped charges.

In September 2014, a driver reported that he was in fear of his safety after Zimmerman had an outburst of road rage. The man, who was not identified, told Lake Mary police that Zimmerman pulled up next to him in a truck and yelled, "Why are you pointing a finger at me?" WKMG-TV reports.

The man also alleged that Zimmerman said, "Do you know who I am? I'll (f***ing) kill you."

He added Zimmerman allegedly followed him into a parking lot while he called 911, before leaving the scene.

The same person called 911 the following day, claiming Zimmerman drove the same pickup truck to his place of work. Although he claimed to be in fear, he declined to press charges.

Zimmerman became a notorious polarizing figure after he was acquitted on charges of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the killing of the Trayvon Martin in November 2012.
