Nearly a year after splitting, high-powered couple John Mayer and Katy Perry are rumored to be talking to each other again.

"They aren't officially back together, but they're talking again," a source told The Boston Herald.

Earlier this month, the pair reportedly hung out in Beverly Hills together before returning to Perry's nearby home, where they weren't seen or heard from until the next afternoon.

"She has a thing for him nobody else understands," the source said.

The couple's rocky history includes a pair of public breakups in 2012 and 2013.

At the time of their most recent split, rumors claimed the pair deeply cared about one another but simply were too different to make things work long -erm.

"They're two strong-willed people," another source told People magazine back then. "They are, at their core, quite different."

Among those rumored differences was the now 30-year-old Perry's fondness for still hanging out with friends and partying, compared with the 37-year-old Mayer's far more reserved nature.

"At times they seemed really happy together and in love, and other times he seemed like he just wanted to get away from all the parties and go home," a source reportedly close to Mayer said. "I can't say I always blamed him."

These days, it's not as if Perry's schedule is less jam-packed. She is slated to perform on the world's largest stage during halftime of the Super Bowl in Arizona on Feb. 1. More than 111 million eyes were focused on Bruno Mars last year when he performed at halftime.

In recent times, Mayer has been romantically linked with such beauties as Jessica Simpson, Cameron Diaz, Minka Kelly, Jennifer Aniston, Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus and Renee Zellweger.
