In a recent interview with Spanish TV show "El Hormiguero," Antonio Banderas opened up about his recent divorce from Melanie Griffith and his experience working on their last film together, "Automata."

Yahoo! Celebrity reports that Banderas, who officially divorced Griffith in June 2014 after 18 years of marriage, revealed he still loves the Golden Globe winning actress despite their split.

"Life goes on," Antonio said about the divorce. "I admire and respect Melanie first and foremost as a great actress. I have always said that. That's why she is in the movie. And she's also the person that I loved, that I love, and will always love."

People notes that the plot line of Banderas and Griffith's film "Automata," which hit theaters last year, ironically correlates with the story of their own romance and its end.

In a separate interview with Spanish magazine Hola, Banderas addressed the relation of the film to his personal life.

"It's curious because Melanie and I met as actors [on 1995's Two Much], and then for the 20 years of our relationship we didn't shoot together," he said. "Then, at the end of our relationship, we're back together again on the screen. There is a very curious thing in the movie which I realized when I first saw it. At the end, there's a moment where she tells me 'Goodbye, Jacq Vaucan,' and I say 'Goodbye Cleo,' and that somehow is the close of our relationship."

While they are no longer together, Banderas and Griffith plan to see each other frequently for the sake of their daughter Stella, who is going to college soon, Banderas explained.

"[Stella will] go to New York University next year, and I'll probably move there to be close," Banderas shared. "She's an adult, 18, and I talk almost daily to her and the rest of my children, although not biological."

Banderas is currently linked to Dutch financial consultant Nicole Kimpel, People reports.
