Eve and Jill Scott recently stopped by the "Sway in the Morning" radio show to discuss their Lifetime film, "With This Ring." In addition to promoting the film, the two musicians/actresses also discussed their opinion on the controversy surrounding Australian rapper Iggy Azalea and her alleged appropriation of black culture/

Accprdomg to BillboardEve explained that, while she is not a personal fan of Iggy, she still understands that the "Fancy" rapper is representing a certain female demographic.

"At the end of the day I get it. I get that people might be upset about certain things, but yeah she's white but they grew up with our sh*t. Hip-hop is everywhere -- every neighborhood, every country, every city -- and it didn't just hit ... Yes it's from us and it's our thing, but she's representing a group of girls right now as well," Eve explained.

Eve added that people these days "are too quick to give too many accolades to new people."

"That's the one thing I just can't stand," she continued. "Let her do her thing. It's not my cup of tea, but she's representing for somebody. She's doing her thing. What are you gonna do?"

Scott chimed in on the conversation, insisting that Iggy's persona is a blend of Eve and Da Brat. Though she acknowledged that her own music is inspired by other artists as well, Scott described Iggy's music as a "bite" off of authentic female emcees.

"It's a little challenging for me because I come from the era that she pulled from. To me, it's a mixture of Da Brat and Eve. That's what it sounds like to me, so that's a little challenging for me, but I'm a mixture of Sarah Vaughan and five other things. So for somebody else that comes from that era, they'd be like 'You aight.' So that has been the only thing that stops me, is that I know where that comes from. It sounds like a big bite to me," Scott said.

Vibe reports that Eve concluded the discussion by addressing Iggy's choice to rap in a different accent other than her Australian accent. She named the rap voice "Blaccent" and encouraged the rapper to incorporate her native accent in her music and be more authentic with her persona.

"I'm saying it in a sense that, she's from a different place. I've said this before, it would be dope to hear her with her swag. What are you? Who are you, and what is that? That's the only reason I say that. [Australians] are so dope. That's my only thing," Eve said.
