Rockstar North's "Grand Theft Auto" series has proven so popular that the action-adventure video game is already in its fifth installment. Released in 2013 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles (and eventually for PS4 and Xbox One), "Grand Theft Auto V" once again gives players the opportunity to roam San Andreas and complete missions full of shooting and driving gameplay.

There are plenty of shady characters in all GTA games, so it's hard to imagine that anybody would feel to bad about using some of the cheats its developers have made available. After all, the streets of the city based on Greater Los Angeles in Southern California are dangerous, and you will need all the help you can get to survive in its criminal underworld.

How exactly you can use these magic commands and gain an advantage depends on which console you play "Grand Theft Auto V"; the basic approach, though, is identical and consists of entering a given sequence of keys in just the right order.

To make your life a bit easier, we have compiled some of the highlights listed by our friends at GameFAQs for both PlayStation and Xbox :

  • When things get heated in San Andreas, who couldn't benefit from a "flame round?" Not a problem if you know the right command.

On the PS3, key in "L1," "R1," "Square," "R1," "Left," "R2," "R1," "Left," "Square," "Right," "L1" and, once again, "L1."

On the Xbox 360, the same cheat is "LB," "RB," "X," "RB," "Left," "RT," "RB," "Left," "X," "Right," "LB" and, one more time, "LB."

  • Are things moving a bit fast for you? "Grand Theft Auto V" includes a helpful -- and highly entertaining -- slow-motion cheat.

Simply key in "Y," "Left," "Right," "Right," "X," "RT" and "RB" on your Xbox 360,

Push "Triangle," "Left," "Right," "Right," "Square," "R2" and "R1" on your PS3.

  • In a hot pursuit and need to shake off that rival who's pursuing you?

"It never rains in Southern California," according to Albert Hammond.

"GTA's" "slippery streets" cheat, howver, changes that.

The combination here is "Triangle," "R1," "R1," "Left," "R1," "L1," "R2" and "L1" on the Sony console.

Pust "Y," "RB," "RB," "Left," "RB," "LB," "RT" and "LB" on its Microsoft counterpart.
