The celebrity or icon who gets to hold the throne for having the most followers on Twitter this 2013 is none other than hit singer and songwriter, Katy Perry.

The Verge reported that at the time of their article, there were about 46,477,000 Twitter followers of the Roar singer, beating Justin Bieber and placing him down to the second spot. The problem is, Bieber fans might find it hard to beat the female singer for Perry's account has maintained a good lead of 2,000 followers more than the teen pop heartthrob.

At the third spot is Lady Gaga who used to be hailed as the Twitter queen but was eventually beaten by Bieber. She's followed by the US President Obama on 4th and Taylor Swift at 5th place. One of the suspected reasons for such a surge of rise in the social networking site on Katy is when one of the singers of One Direction tweeted a marriage proposal to her as a joke.

In her recent interview with USA Today though, she said that she's taking it easy on the social media channels by tweeting less than how she often does.

Katy Perry vs. Justin Bieber

This is not the first time that Katy Perry's popularity has been compared to the rising hotness as well of Justin Bieber. It was middle of last year when Billboard made a poll to answer who is more talented of the two since both have been topping off their charts for the recent three years.

Not to mention that they both have released a documentary type of movie on how they made it big time to the spotlight and share to their fans how much they worked hard to get where they are now. Bieber had Never Say Never while Perry had Katy Perry: Part of Me, both done with 3D effects.

If there's one thing though, both Katy Perry and Justin Bieber still remain as massive stars in the music industry of today. It could be just of good timing that Perry recently released her much awaited PRISM album which is now making controversial news in Australia for having a tiny pack of seeds with its every sale. It is currently being questioned by the biosecurity officers from the country's Department of Agriculture.
