Mystery and intrigue grip the air as the popular cable network series "The Walking Dead" sets to return to the airwaves for its Season 5 midseason premiere on Sunday night on Feb. 15, on AMC at 9 p.m.

Star cast members Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), Steven Yeun (Glenn) and Lauren Cohan (Maggie) are all back for a premiere episode (see a two-minute clip below) that commences with the gang mourning the loss of Beth (played by Emily Kinney). 

E! News reports that early on pack leader Rick gets some news about a trip and a potential safe house from Noah (Tyler James Williams) that's being touted "the last long trip" the crew may find cause to make.

"It's a long trip, but it works out," Rick Grimes says. "It's the last long trip we have to make."

The new land is said to be located somewhere in Richmond, Va. and in a video the network released sometime in December Lincoln teases it as feeling "like a new place visually and story wise."

Ross Marquand is slated to join the cast this season in a "mysterious new role" as Aaron, a gay character from the popular comic book series created by show founder Robert Kirkman.

"The Walking Dead" creators are also planning to launch a companion series featuring even more zombies and starring Kim Dickens and Cliff Curtis.

Airing on AMC, Variety.com reports that "The Walking Dead" attracted a record-setting 17.3 million viewers for its October 2014 premiere, smashing its Season 4 premiere high of 16. 11 million. The show has also proven to immensely popular among the key 18-49-year-old demographic, amassing a Nielsen rating of 8.7 (roughly 11 million viewers) during that 2014 showing. At the time AMC officials estimated that the show could regularly grow ato have a regular audience as huge as 22 million viewers per episode.
