Apple says that most users who own iOS devices are most likely running the latest iOS for their device.

The company, which produces iPhone and iPads, says that 72 percent of its users are running iOS 8, CNet reports..This is up from 69 percent last week and is likely due to a recent update to iOS 8.1.3.

Meanwhile, 25 percent of Apple users are using iOS 7, and only 3 percent of its users are running a version older than iOS 7,

The data was compiled from Apple's App Store Distribution page

In iOS 8.1.3, several bugs were fixed. One issue that plagued previous versions of the iOS was the amount of storage space required to update the iOS. Previously, an iOS device had to have at least 5.7 GB of free space to update itself; now that amount has been greatly reduced. This likely led to more iOS device owners being able to update their devices.

The eighth version of iOS has faced multiple bugs since it was introduced in September. Apple tried to quickly respond a week later with 8.0.1, but that update came with even more bugs. Apple quickly took 8.0.1 down and replaced it with 8.0.2.  In October, Apple put out iOS 8.1 and then 8.1.2 in December. All of these releases and reports of bugs could have scared some users away from updating from iOS 7.

The next big update for Apple is to iOS 8.2. Users likely will have to wait for the Apple Watch to come out before they get the update to 8.2.  BGR.com reports that iOS 8.2 will have support for the Watch. Because of this, the latest iOS update will not come too soon before the watch's release. BGR cites a trusted source, who said iOS 8.2 will come out some time in March.
