The redesigned 2015 Honda Fit has received a five-star overall safety rating out of five from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), reports Cars.com.

The subcompact hatchback also earned five stars in NHTSA's front and side-impact crash tests and four stars in the rollover test. That's an improvement considering the 2013 Fit received only four stars out of five for all NHTSA tests.

The improvements start with Honda's structural modifications. The automaker outfitted the 2015 Fit's bumpers with upgraded steel bars beneath the plastic covers to increase its safety scores.

The structural changes also helped the 2015 Honda Fit earn the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick status. It captured the top score in side-impact, roof-strength, moderate overlap, head restraints and seats tests. The compact car received the second best score of acceptable in the small overlap crash test, beating out its predecessor which earned the lowest score of poor in the test.

The five-door hatchback offers much more than a superb safety rating. It boasts enough room to comfortably haul five people and some luggage, reports SFGate, and its interior is more spacious and luxurious than the Honda Accord.

Best of all, the 2015 Fit offers good fuel mileage figures. When tested, the top-of-the-line EX-L model had EPA ratings of 32/38 mpg, city/highway, according to SFGate.

The Fit comes with every option a driver could want: navigation, XM satellite radio, Bluetooth, paddle shifters and other must-have modern conveniences.

The 2015 Honda Fit can be purchased as an automatic or a six-speed manual on the LX and EX models. The sticker price starts at $15,650, but if you opt for leather seats and all options, the price can increase to $21,590.
