Legendary trainer Nacho Beristain believes Manny Pacquiao has what it takes to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. if their super fight happens on Cinco de Mayo weekend on May 2.

Beristain, who is very familiar with Pacquiao having trained Mexican boxing warrior Juan Manuel Marquez four times against the former pound-for-pound king, believes the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight will be too close to call because both fighters are great in their own right.

But for him, Pacquiao will be too much for Mayweather because the unbeaten champion has not yet faced a fighter like his biggest rival, who throws a lot of punches in order to pressure his opponent.

"It's a very good, important fight, but that fight should not happen," Beristain told Ring Observer. "Because I believe Pacquiao will beat Mayweather. You're gonna take away the glory that has made Mayweather these past years. Mayweather's style, when he fights someone that pressures him and throws a lot of punches, he just beats up."

Mayweather, who holds a perfect 47-0 record with 28 knockout victories, is coming off two consecutive wins against Marcos Maidana. Mayweather had to survive a huge scare in their first fight, though, after Maidana pressured him for the entire fight, which ended with a majority decision win for the Grand Rapids native.

Beristain knows that most boxing analysts and former world champions are convinced Mayweather has an edge against Pacquiao, but the famed world-renowned trainer reiterated he knows what the Filipino boxing icon is capable of doing, which he saw firsthand in the four Pacquiao-Marquez fights.

Interestingly, Beristain also trained Marquez against Mayweather in 2009, but the pound-for-pound king cruised to a lopsided decision win over his Mexican challenger.

"I know very well Pacquiao," the 75-year-old trainer said. "I've seen him fight many times. He's very good. And everybody picks Mayweather to win the fight because he wins so much against easy fighters, but Pacquiao is just too tough, too strong."

The Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, which is expected to break boxing records in terms of total revenue, will reportedly happen on May 2 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Pacquiao, the reigning World Boxing Organization welterweight champion who has a 57-5 record with 38 knockouts, recently told a local television network in the Philippines that his fight with Mayweather is already a done deal. However, the 36-year-old added that Mayweather will be the one to decide on when to announce the fight.
