In addition to watching the best in Hollywood receive their awards, the Oscars is the place where viewers might notice some embarrassing moments taking place at the live televised event

As the countdown for this Sunday's 87th annual Academy Awards begins, let's take a look back at some not-so-flattering moments that occurred during past Academy award shows.

1. The Nude Stranger of 1974

Back in 1974, an unidentified man walked across the Oscars stage completely nude as actor David Niven prepared to present an award. While the Oscars audience roared with laughter, Niven appeared less than amused, reports RadarOnline.

2. Billy Crystal's "The Help" Joke

Billy Crystal's distasteful joke about black women and "The Help" left us cringing in our seats. Following Octavia Spencer's Oscar win for "The Help," Crystal appeared on stage and joked he wanted to hug the first black woman he saw after viewing the film,"which, from Beverly Hills is about a 45-minute drive," he said, according to the LA Times

3. Sally Field's Acceptance Speech

Sally Field seemed a little ungrateful when she won her second Oscar award, reports MensXP. She commented she "didn't feel" her first Oscar win, but the second time around was more authentic in her eyes. "The first time I didn't feel it, but this time I feel it, and I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!"

4. Anne Hathaway and James Franco

Anne Hathaway and James Franco were definitely not a match made in heaven when they hosted the 2011 Oscars. Throughout the entire show, the two hosts had no chemistry and were criticized as being very boring. The jokes were forced, and the entire pairing was extremely awkward.

5. John Travolta's Slip Up

One of the most recent embarrassing moments of the Oscars was John Travolta's slip up when he went to present Idina Menzel's "Frozen" performance at last year's Oscars. Instead of saying her name, Travolta introduced her as Adele Dazim, which left the Oscar crowd bewildered and confused.

6. Jennifer Lawrence Slips

Jennifer Lawrence was so excited at the 2013 Oscars ceremony she tripped on her way to the stage to receive her Academy award for Best Actress. And while the slip up was certainly embarrassing, Lawrence brushed it off with a smile and accepted her award with joy and pride.
