The Dallas Cowboys are expected to be one of the busiest teams this offseason.

Superstar wide receiver Dez Bryant has an expiring contract, as does leading rusher DeMarco Murray. The Cowboys would love to re-sign both players, but salary cap restrictions may prohibit that from happening. Odds are, Bryant will get a franchise tag this offseason.

With that being said, here are five upcoming free agents the Cowboys should consider signing:

1. Byron Maxwell

The Seattle Seahawks want to re-sign Byron Maxwell, who is part of the "Legion of Boom" secondary, but it's going to be tough to bring him back. Russell Wilson is due for a new contract that is expected to be enormous, and Marshawn Lynch also wants a new contract. Jermaine Kearse has an expiring contract as well, and the Seahawks have to upgrade their wide receiver depth.

General manager Jerry Jones knows the Cowboys have a weak spot in their secondary, as they did rank 26th in passing yards allowed last season. Maxwell often guards the best opposing receivers because they don't go up against Richard Sherman.

2. Nick Fairley

While everyone is focusing on Ndamukong Suh, the Detroit Lions have another great defensive tackle with an expiring contract. Nick Fairley is one of the best defensive lineman in the league at stopping the run. The Denver Broncos may let Terrance Knighton walk, but Fairley will cost significantly less. Fairley is still just 27 years old, and he could be a great franchise player for the Cowboys.

3. Brandon Lloyd

It may seem strange because the Cowboys have one of the best passing offenses in the NFL with Tony Romo at the helm. However, Dallas has to have an insurance plan. If Bryant is franchise tagged, he will most likely leave after next season.

Brandon Lloyd is an underrated wide receiver who has great down field speed. Lloyd once led the NFL in receiving yards back in 2010, and still had over 900 yards in 2012. With so many great receivers on the open market, Lloyd would come at a very small price, and he could help the Cowboys next season on offense stretching the field.

4. Antonio Cromartie

The Cowboys regret every day the Brandon Carr $50 million contract that they agreed to in 2012. The Cowboys need to improve their secondary, and cornerback is what comes to mind first. If Dallas can't get Maxwell, they may be able to get Antonio Cromartie instead.

Still 30 years old, Cromartie had a great career with the New York Jets, San Diego Chargers, and played well for the Arizona Cardinals last season. Cromartie has recorded at least three interceptions every year since 2009, and he is an underrated tackler. Cromartie has also shown that he can play well in different defensive schemes over time.

5. Rey Maualuga

Kansas City Chiefs sack-master Justin Houston will be the top linebacker that everyone wants this offseason. And rightfully so. The Cowboys definitely have a need at linebacker, especially considering the fact that Sean Lee struggles so much to stay on the field. Odds are the Cincinnati Bengals will let Rey Maualuga test the free agent market this offseason. Maualuga is a young linebacker who can make a difference stopping the run, batting down passes, and has missed just seven games since entering the league in 2009 out of USC.

The NFL free agent and trading period begins on Tuesday, March 10 at 4 p.m. EST. Monday, March 2 at 4 p.m. EST is the last day for teams to use the franchise tag.
