SanDisk announced its new microSD card at the Mobile World Congress on Sunday, revealing the remarkable 200GB of memory -- a 56 percent leap on the current highest capacity microSD, a 128GB card.

While SanDisk did not disclose details, the company said it achieved the higher capacity by "using a proprietary design and production process" that enables more bits of memory per chip.

Getting that much storage on a card the size of your baby finger's fingernail is a huge achievement.

"We continue to push technology boundaries to deliver record-breaking solutions that transform the way consumers use their mobile devices," said Dinesh Bahal, SanDisk vice president of product marketing. "By focusing on achieving new capacity and speed milestones, we are able to deliver trusted mobile memory solutions that give consumers the freedom to never stop capturing, saving, or sharing -- with the benefit of fast speeds to transfer it all quickly."

By "transfer it all quickly," Bahal means consumers can expect to move up to 1,200 photos per minute. The Premium Edition microSD card supports data transfer at a speed up to 90MB per second.

The American multinational company believes 7 out of 10 images captured by consumers are now from mobile devices, and for that reason, it wants to deliver solutions for the needs of mobile users, such as with the new 200GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC card.

The 200GB SanDisk Ultra microSDXC UHS-I card, Premium Edition, comes with a 10-year limited warranty. It will be available worldwide in the second quarter for a retail price of $399.99.

For more than 25 years, California-based SanDisk has transformed the electronics industry with its flash storage solutions. The company's cutting edge solutions are embedded in many of the world's largest data centers, advanced smartphones, tablets and PCs. SanDisk's consumer products are available at worldwide retail stores.
