Country singer Wayne Mills was shot and killed at 5 a.m. Saturday in Nashville, Tenn. Chris Ferrell, the owner of a downtown bar, Pit and Barrel, told police he fatally shot Mills in self-defense after the two got into an argument over him smoking a cigarette in a no-smoking area.

Mills, 44, died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Kris Mumford, police spokeswoman says investigators are looking into Ferrell's claim of self-defense, since he did have a valid handgun permit. No arrests have been made. Michael Scott, one of the men who were at the bar with Mills, told WSMV-TV that they had all attended a George Jones tribute concert that Friday night. They decided to then go to a couple of bars before they went home. That's how they ended up at the Pit and Barrel. Mills, who was a native of Arab, Ala. toured with the Wayne Mills Band through out college towns for 15 years. The Wayne Mills band is said to have stars like Jamey Johnson, Blake Shelton and American Idol winner Taylor Hicks, all open for them in their early careers, according to the band's website.

Pit and Barrel were set to be featured on Sunday's episode of "Bar Rescue" on Spike TV but were pulled from the show after the news broke out. The show that was going to give the bar a makeover most likely did not want anything to do with the troubles, especially after such a serious occurrence.

Some of Wayne Mills Band songs were "Box", "Redneck Hippie" and "Alabama Blues". Hope this case can find is closure. Nobody's life is worth a smoking disagreement. Now there is a life lost and a band left without a band mate. Not too mention the controversy that now surrounds the Pit and Barrel and how Chris Ferrell's decision will forever be a burden on it all.
