The American League East is a baseball division unlike any other.

It has won a combined 40 World Series championships, has arguably the greatest rivalry in sports history, and it is home to the only Canadian team.

The AL East has had three different winners in the last three seasons, including four different winners in the last five seasons. With that being said, this division is up for grabs.

Let's preview each team and predict who will come out on top in 2015:

New York Yankees

The Yankees have missed the playoffs the last two seasons, and it's going to be tough without Derek Jeter on the roster. The future Hall of Famer has retired from the game after 20 memorable seasons. The pitching staff will be counting on more than ever with Masahiro Tanaka leading the way. Tanaka had a great rookie season last year, but manager Joe Girardi has to limit his minutes because of elbow inflammation.

The Yankees don't have the most talented roster in the AL East, so divisional play will be extremely critical. Last season, the Yankees were just 37-39 against AL East division teams. Alex Rodriguez is back on the field, and it's time for him to start earning part of that enormously high pay check. Pitcher Michael Pineda is expected to have a breakout season for the Pinstripes this year.

Boston Red Sox

What an offseason it was for the Red Sox.

After a last place 71-91 finish last season, the Red Sox have reloaded this offseason. The Red Sox' biggest additions were Latin American stars Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval, the latter who is one of the most clutch players in the game today. Sandoval led the San Francisco Giants to three World Series titles. Sandoval is a career .344 postseason hitter.

Ramirez was a valuable addition, as well. The 31-year-old Dominican is returning to the team that signed him as an international free agent in 2005. Ramirez has a .300 career batting average playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins. The Red Sox have been a very weird team recently.

In the last three seasons, they've gone from last place to World Series champs to last place. Boston fans are hoping that trend stays.

Baltimore Orioles

We can't count out the defending AL East champions.

Last season the Baltimore Orioles won the division with a 96-66 record. That was the Orioles' first division championship since 1997, and just the third time since then that the Yankees or Red Sox didn't win the AL East.

Baltimore was so successful last year because of their power hitting, having led the majors in total home runs hit. Unfortunately for the Orioles, they will be without their leading home run hitter from last season, Nelson Cruz. The Dominican outfielder slugged a career-high 40 home runs last season, but he is now with the Seattle Mariners.

Toronto Blue Jays

It's been a pretty long postseason drought for the lone Canadian-based MLB team. In 1992 and 1993, they won back-to-back World Series championships, but they haven't made the playoffs since. The Toronto Maple Leafs haven't exactly helped out with a Stanley Cup drought that dates back to 1967.

The Blue Jays last season finished 83-79, which was good enough for third place in the AL East. Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Bautista and Juan Francisco lead a Latino star-studded lineup that scored the fifth-most runs in the league last season. However, pitching is an issue. The Blue Jays ranked 22nd in team ERA and 21st in batting average allowed last season. The addition of Johan Santana is an interesting one. Only time will tell if it pays off.

Tampa Bay Rays

The Rays were one of the most disappointing teams in the league last season. Last year, the Rays won just 77 games, 15 less than the previous year. Many MLB experts are expecting the Rays to finish last place in the division this season because of the tough competition and a lackluster offseason. Oddly enough, the Rays had a losing record at home last season, but a winning record on the road.

Still, the Rays have won the AL East twice since 2008, and they've had two second place finishes since then, as well. The Rays lack power-hitting, as Evan Longoria was the only player with more than 12 home runs last season on the team.
