Sony launched the PlayStation 4 on Nov. 15 in North America, and within its first 24 hours on shelves it sold over one million units. Since then, the company has gone worldwide but has been quiet about its sales. Today, Sony revealed just how big the PS4's success is.

Since launching less than a month ago, the PS4 has reportedly sold 2.1 million systems. Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, wrote on Sony's blog to discuss the accomplishment.

"I'm proud to announce that more than 2.1 million PS4s have been sold," House wrote. "It's an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn't have done it without you. I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence. The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun."

Sony does not plan on stopping there. House says that the company will continue to improve the PS4 as time passes.

"In addition to an incredible lineup of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead," he wrote.

One of those new features could be a new streaming service. According to Eurogamer's "trusted sources," Gaikai will provide a cloud-based streaming service to PS4 users starting in 2014, with the service becoming available in Europe in 2015.

"We're on track to have a commercial service up and running in the US first within 2014," House told Eurogamer. "That remains the plan, and we're very much on track to reach that, but what's important is to understand the full scope of what we're trying to achieve...Our goal is to be able to have a new form of game distribution streamed from the server side, initially to PS4 consoles then gradually moving that out to Vita."
