An upcoming episode of “Elementary” has Holmes and Watson detecting in the digital world.

As reported in Spoilers Guide, the show titled "One Watson, One Holmes" has Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and Watson (Lucy Liu) drawn into an internet civil war when a member of the anonymous hacker group they sometimes work with is killed.

“Elementary,” one of several contemporary adaptations of the Arthur Conan Doyle crime fighting hero, has done an excellent job of illustrating the link between obsession and genius.

And, as the show’s executive producer Robert Doherty explains to Collider, this is all intentional.

The writer and show creator said: “Our Sherlock is a puzzle-solver. I really think that is his obsession, to the point you might call it an addiction. In many senses, he has something of an addictive personality. In the source material, that turned into a real addiction.”

Doherty, whose previous producing credits include "Medium" and "Point Pleasant," goes on to explain how the original Sherlock messed around with cocaine and opiates.

“Our Sherlock had those same problems, but one of the big differences is that our Sherlock hit a serious wall,” said Doherty, elaborating that he "always described him as someone for whom the world and life came quite easily because he could see so many things. He could take things down to their simplest elements. That makes not just investigation relatively simple, but living your life and navigating this world.”

Doherty explains that Homes is in a kind of shock as the world has turned out to not be as easy as he once thought.

“Something terrible happened to him in London, and he spiraled out of control,” said Doherty, whose depiction of Holmes is that of a man who has emerged from tragedy with “just a tiny kernel of self-doubt, where one previously never existed.”

The upcoming episode of “Elementary” will air on April 9.
