Who knew that a little cake could make national news? An anti-gay & lesbian bake shop owner in Colorado made national news when he refused to bake a cake for a same-sex couple, and now tells Fox News that not only does "Jesus" (of all people) want him to deny gay people equal rights, he would rather go to jail than bake a cake for a gay or lesbian couple, state laws be damned.

Jack Phillips, the owner of Masterpiece Cakeshop in Colorado, told Fox News' Elisabeth Hasselback (how does this woman continue to be employed?) that he feels that he was cut out for this specific work. "I do what I do because I love doing what I do and I believe it's what God's designed for me to do. I don't plan on giving up my religious beliefs ... I don't feel that I should participate in their wedding, and when I do a cake, I feel like I'm participating in the ceremony or the event or the celebration that the cake is for."

Hasselback, of course, feels that a state judge ordering Phillips to bake a cake for a same-sex couple is a violation of his right to practice his religion, and Phillips (through his attorney) agrees. "If the government can force you to violate your beliefs under the threat of a jail sentence, there's really no freedom they can't take away, Elisabeth," said attorney Nicolle Martin.

"They would be taking away my rights to do what I do as a business owner, as an American citizen," Phillips insisted. "And as a follower of Jesus Christ, I don't believe that's what he wants me to do. And so my priorities would be towards my faith rather than towards my safety or security."
