Trey Songz surprised his fans by unexpectedly dropping a new mixtape, appropriately titled "Intermission."

For the last few months, the Virginia native has been quite busy being on the road with Chris Brown and Tyga for the "Between the Sheets" tour, as well as traveling overseas to open for Nicki Minaj on the European leg of "The Pinkprint" tour.

Now that he is back from touring, Trigga took to his Twitter account on April 14 to tease his latest project:

The new six-track EP, released via SoundCloud, opens with an introduction, in which the R&B artist starts hyping the crowd at one of his concerts. He then yells to "cut the music" before saying: "We gon' take a little intermission."

The just-released mixtape certainly serves as "a lil Intermission," coming between last year's "Trigga" and its upcoming re-release, "Trigga Reloaded."

The "Touchin, Lovin" singer still wants fans to listen to "Trigga," treating the forthcoming album as an addition.

"With 'Trigga Reloaded,' I wanted to give records like 'Slow Motion' and other records that I had no place for a home," he told ThisIsR&B in February. "I didn't feel they belong on 'Tremaine,' and I wanted more people to hear 'Trigga.'"

Trey also premiered his "TRIGGA Reloaded - The Intermission" documentary, in which he explains that since he "felt re-energized by the love" from the two major tours, he "wanted to share this glimpse of the journey while giving my fans some new music with 'Intermission.'"

"The love I've received is beyond belief, I've attempted to reciprocate it by sharing this vulnerable yet genuine piece," he adds.

Trey Songz's "Trigga Reloaded" is set for a release on June 23. Listen to "Intermission" below:
