Hillary Clinton has turned to a longtime, trusted aide to help spearhead her second presidential campaign.

The former Secretary of State announced on Sunday that she has officially entered the 2016 presidential race. A day later, San Antonio attorney Jose H. Villarreal was appointed as treasurer for the prospective Democratic nominee's "Hillary for America" campaign.

According to Fox News Latino, Villareal has a long history of working with both Hillary and Bill Clinton. The Mexican-American lawyer served as deputy campaign manager for Bill during his first run for the White House in 1992 and as a senior adviser to Hillary when she ran against then-Senator Barack Obama in 2008.

After being elected as Secretary of State, Hillary named Villarreal U.S. Commissioner General to the Shanghai 2010 World Expo. The Texas attorney has also served as the campaign treasurer for Democratic Rep. Joaquin Castro, reports the San Antonio Express-News.

In addition, Villareal previously served as treasurer during Al Gore's 2000 presidential bid before being chosen as the co-chairman of John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign. Furthermore, Villareal was granted ambassadorial rank by President Obama.

The announcement of Villareal's new appointment in the Clinton camp was applauded by San Antonio's Latino community.

"It's a good thing for San Antonio to have a connection to the Hillary Clinton campaign, and if she wins, obviously beyond that," Henry Cisneros, who served as the U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development from 1993 to 1997 under the Clinton Administration, told the San Antonio Express News.

"President Clinton thinks of him as one of his most trusted advisers, and I use those words very carefully," Cisneros added. "He's quite a national figure, and we're fortunate that he calls San Antonio home."

According to Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP, Villarreal works as a consultant at the Alamo City-based law firm and councils clients on legal and policy issues.
