One of the top game consoles appears to be pulling away in terms of sales, for now at least.

The Sony and Microsoft platforms struck gold in the early going when both companies sold more than a million units in just the first 24 hours on the shelves. Although it is far too early to tell which game console will eventually pull away for good, the PlayStation 4 has the edge in the outside markets heading into Christmas.

One main site that still has a supply of the game consoles is eBay, where sellers are able to take advantage of the availability in their areas before turning a profit by marking up the platforms when they post them on eBay.

Understandably, it is all but impossible to find an Xbox One and PlayStation 4 at this point in the holiday season as most retailers have completely sold out their remaining stock. However, eBay has remained a top option for buyers who have looked elsewhere in pursuit of their desired platform.

The other option, at least for those of you who are in no hurry to get the platforms under the tree on Christmas morning, is to preorder the game console(s) and have them shipped to your local store, or even to your doorstep, by the start of the new year (in just a week)!

When it is all said and done, the real determining factor in the race for the top game console is going to be when the holidays settle down and when the early release rush evens out.

Which game console will end up having the most success when the dust settles? Will the Xbox One storm back to edge out the PS4 or will the current trend continue into 2014?

One thing is for sure: only time will tell.
